Hand-made, Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) Ofuro (bathtub)

This is exciting. Working with our Hinoki supplier we have available for purchase this beautiful hand-made Japanese ofuro (traditional Japanese bathtub). It is finished with kannashiage - or a traditional Japanese hand plane finish that leaves the wood water-resistant. This means no wax or oil or other type of finish (that western furniture and wooden items usually have) has been applied. It is simply just the pure Hinoki look, feel, and scent.
Such tubs must be maintained daily by “watering” the tub if it is not used every day - simply pour water over it daily. The other option is leave a bucket of water inside the tub and place a tight-fitting lid over it when not in use to maintain the tub’s moisture levels and to avoid drying which leads to shrinking, splitting, and more.
That said, we can also apply a finish for you when purchasing if the thought of watering your tub daily does not appeal to you!
