This curved blade carving gouge is made of high speed steel and is designed primarily for carving the inside curves of bowls and spoons, and the similar inner curves on the back of a Japanese Noh mask. The blade features a deep, rounded profile and a boldly curved tip set upon a long neck capable of reaching even the very bottom of deeply hollowed, bowl-like forms.
The high speed steel retains a sharper edge longer, and Michihamono makes a very cool E-Z Care sharpening kit for their high speed steel tools which we highly recommend.
